Appearances by Audrey Penn
Beloved children's author Audrey Penn, who has written more than 15 picture and chapter books for children, will join local celebrity-heroes and hundreds of Wake County families in celebrating the delights of children’s literature and the special joys of reading together during Bookmarked! 2012. She will be the third recipient of the Lucy Daniels Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to children’s literature that supports social and emotional health.
Ms. Penn will do several public readings for children and their families during Bookmarked! 2012. Fans of her work may purchase autographed copies from local booksellers at these events, with proceeds benefitting Lucy's Book Club and the Center's Family Support Fund.
--On Saturday, April 28, Ms. Penn will read at Quail Ridge Books at 10 a.m. Attendees who purchase Ms. Penn’s books through the Lucy’s Book Club Book Fair at Quail Ridge may pick up their pre-signed books following the reading.
--On Wednesday, May 2, she will read from her "Mystery at Blackbeard's Cove" chapter books for older children at the N.C. Museum of History at 10 a.m. Enjoy viewing artifacts from the Queen Anne's Revenge, Blackbeard's pirate ship, after the reading! (Suggested age of attendees is 6 - 12 years. Pre-registration and $1 fee required per museum policy.) Pre-signed copied of Ms. Penn's chapter books will be available in the museum store.
--The program for older children will be repeated that same afternoon, Wednesday, May 2, at 4:15 p.m. at Cameron Village Public Library.
--On Saturday, May 5, Ms. Penn will join us at the Family Fun Concert (9 a.m. - 12 noon) at The Green at North Hills for a 10:30 a.m. reading. Pre-signed copies of Ms. Penn's books will be available through the North Hills Bookery.

Ms. Penn is also planning to lead a workshop for educators on Thursday, May 3, from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. at the Lucy Daniels Center in Cary. Check back soon for more details!
