LBC Blog: Meet the contributors
Here are the Lucy’s Book Club Blog contributors for 2011-12, who write each week on topics including early childhood development, news about children's books and other resources, and local events for families with young children. Jennifer Reid is a teacher in the Center’s Early Intervention Program and the chair of the LBC book selection panel. She has an M.A. in early childhood and elementary education from NYU, an early childhood teacher credential from the American Montessori Society, and the professional credential of Certified Psychoanalytic Educator (CPE). Some books she enjoys reading with her students are Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst, Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, and Lily’s Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes.
Deborah Mugno has served as education director at the Center from 1996 -2003 and from February, 2010, to present. She holds an M.S. in education/reading and an Ed.D. in special education/leadership from Johns Hopkins University. Books she most enjoys reading to children include Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein, Mr. Popper’s Penguins by Richard and Florence Atwater, and Dandelion by Don Freeman.
Anna Quarles is a mental health clinician in the Center’s Family Guidance Service. She has earned dual master’s degrees in social work and public health from the University of Pittsburgh. She has also completed coursework through the Psychoanalytic Education Center of the Carolinas. Some of her childhood favorites are Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Ron and Judi Barrett, The Poky Little Puppy by Janette Sebring Lowrey, and It’s Not Easy Being a Bunny by Marilyn Sadler.
Karen Lewis Taylor is a writer and editor and serves as communications specialist at the Center. She has an M.A. in English literature from UNC-Chapel Hill and is a former high school English teacher and publication advisor. Her favorite children's books include Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes and Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman.

Nikki Edmondson is a senior at N.C. State who is interning at the Center this year. She is studying communications and public relations with a minor in nonprofit studies. She is involved in her youth group, The Raleigh Wesley Foundation, as well as marching in the colorguard of The Power Sound of the South, N.C. State’s marching band. Her favorite book growing up was Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss.
